At the beginning of 2006 Roads & Maritime Services announced a proposal to upgrade the Princes Highway between Gerringong and Bomaderry.

The Berry to Bomaderry upgrade is creating a four-lane highway along the Princess Highway, between Schofields Lane, Berry and Cambewarra Road, Bomaderry. Prior upgrades along this route include the Gerringong upgrade (currently under construction), and the Foxground and Berry bypass (soon to be constructed).

In November 2013 Roads & Maritime Services made available a report on environmental factors for the proposed upgrade. They received over 70 submissions from the community raising issues in regard to the upgrade. Due to these submissions some changes to the concept road design have been made and can be viewed here.
